The main reasons for investment at a glance

Excellent motorway links from Scandinavia to Italy, and from Amsterdam/Paris/London all the way to Moscow
Niedersachsen is home to the world’s largest industry fair: HANNOVER MESSE
Maritime infrastructure with 9 seaports along 300 kilometres of North Sea coast
Hannover Airport has flights 24/7 moving over 6 million passengers every year
Global market leader in many industries
Companies such as Volkswagen, Continental, Siemens Gamesa, Sartorius, OttoBock, Sennheiser and Kind are just a few of the global market leaders based in Niedersachsen. These giants serve as a magnet for international firms seeking symbiotic relationships and fruitful networks.
International trade show location
The trade show centre in Hannover is the second biggest in the world. This is where major trade shows such as Agritechnica, Domotex and Hannover Messe are held. Hannover Messe is known all over the world as the industrial fair of international importance. In 2019, many of the 215,000 visitors came from China, the Netherlands and India.
Research
Niedersachsen is characterised by industries with a strong research base. Measured in terms of expenditure on research and development as a proportion of GDP in a national comparison, Niedersachsen ranks second for research intensity. This is made possible thanks to close cooperation between excellent universities, specialised research institutions and innovative companies.
Quality of life
Niedersachsen is an attractive tourist destination. No other state in Germany offers as much variety: from holidays by the sea to winter breaks in the mountains – the choice is huge. In the Lüneburg Heath alone there are more theme parks than anywhere else in Germany. The hugely important tourism sector is growing all the time, and reflects the high quality of life in Niedersachsen.
Talent
Niedersachsen has an above-average number of students studying STEM subjects as well as agrifood subjects and the life sciences. Compared to the rest of Germany, Niedersachsen has the highest expenditure per professor and student, evidence of the high quality of the scientific research and teaching here. Niedersachsen also ranks among the frontrunners when it comes to apprenticeship employers.
Foreign representation around the world
Making Niedersachsen an international business centre is one of the main objectives of Niedersachsen’s economic policy. To this end, foreign representations have been set up and partnerships formed around the world in recent years, both for foreign investors and Niedersachsen-based companies.
