The trade show centre in Hannover is the second biggest in the world. This is where major trade shows such as Agritechnica, Domotex and Hannover Messe are held. Hannover Messe is known all over the world as the industrial fair of international importance. In 2019, many of the 215,000 visitors came from China, the Netherlands and India.

Niedersachsen is characterised by industries with a strong research base. Measured in terms of expenditure on research and development as a proportion of GDP in a national comparison, Niedersachsen ranks second for research intensity. Niedersachsen also ranks among the frontrunners when it comes to apprenticeship employers.
